TIVO...

WBIR, Channel 10 news will be running the 2 part story of Doug and Izaak, Wednesday, June 21 at both 6:00 and 11:00. Please set your TIVO, DVR, Slingbox, MCE, and/or that other recording media (aka VCRs–if there are any of those still out there) to record these news segments. Herryn Riendeau covered the piece, who is a recovering lawyer, and I think she will put together a great story. I will try to get a stream of the piece, for those of you that are outside the viewing area. Share the...

Movied...

What do Donors and Donees do the first full day when you are released from the hospital? Get movied up. Izaak came over to Doug’s house this morning, and they stayed in his newly rennovated basement (which is another post that needs to be written) and got movied up on the big screen and surround sound.  Maybe Doug or Izaak would be kind enough to drop a short review or two. Force of One Sitsterhood of the Traveling Pants Wallace and Gromit Undercover Brother My suggestion: Full trilogies (Godfather, LOTR, Die Hard, Star Wars). Suggestions? Share the...

Recovery...

Doug and Izaak had an enjoyable day recovering in Doug’s newly rennovated basement watching movies, sleeping, and taking an occassional bong toke draw from the post-op-lung-machine-thingy. Share the...

Donation...

As you will notice on the sidebar, I have no shame. No, actually I have had requests as to whether there was anything that anyone could do to help out with Izaak and Doug. For the immediate future, Izaak and Doug will not be working, and it would really help them out if anyone was able to donate some money to offset their bills. Doug had his first prescription filled yesterday and his bill was more than $400 after the insurance coverage. He will likely have extensive medication bills in the coming years. Kelly is investigating whether Social Security will help offset...

Trust...

I’ve updated floydville. here’s an excerpt: In the last six days, my life has transformed in ways I have yet to fully grasp. I am grateful to a world of people who’ve played various roles in this event. First and foremost, Izaak’s gift and act of personal sacrifice goes beyond my ability to fully express adequate appreciation. All I can say is “Thank you for laying down your life for mine.” As always, my secret weapon in life is my wife Kelly. She stays in the background, taking care of me and host of other issues that allow me to simply be. She is a...

A Few Thoughts from Doug...

After a week of excitement, I’m sitting in my own bed preparing to go to sleep. I’ve enjoyed Jer’s blog and all the comments. Now I’m ready to rest for about two solid weeks before I do much of anything. I am going to the clinic twice a week but otherwise I’m pretty much confined to the house. After that, I’ll follow pretty much whatever the doctors tell me. Some people say recovery ranges from 6 to 8 weeks. So I will have to wait and see. Once I cut the hospital bracelets off, I’m officially home. After spending six in the care...
