Change is Afoot in the world of Jeremy Floyd

“What’s going on in the world of Jeremy Floyd? I know something is going on… ” a friend said to me recently, “from Facebook posts to blog posts, I know something’s happening.” Well, in fact, my friend was right; change is indeed afoot. This week I’m excited to announce that I have accepted a position as Chief Marketing Officer at BPV Capital Management, where I will lead the marketing efforts with a company that is in high growth mode.

change

Just over three years ago, I had an amazing opportunity to join forces with one of the bigger fish in our pond of branding, creative, and amazing digital services. At Bluegill, I had the opportunity to work with a truly amazing team to create some amazing campaigns, build some out-of-box solutions to client needs, and have a great time with the family of fishes. Walking away from Bluegill as it is turning the page to a new and exciting chapter in its history is one of the hardest decisions that I’ve ever made.

So, what in the world, right?

As I wrote a few weeks ago, sometimes you get a call and you have to determine whether it’s “the call” or a wrong number. When Mike West first called, I thought: ‘this must be a wrong number.’ Highly regulated industry, little industry knowledge, single client focus all sounded like it was a call for someone else, but Mike persisted.

Once we met, he planted the vision of his goals with the company, and almost immediately I saw my role in that growth plan. When I realized the magnitude of the vision, I knew this guy liked to think big–a man after my own heart. Then after meeting the high-caliber leadership team, this faint opportunity crystalized into reality.

But here’s the question that I get, “You’re wha?! What in the world you’re a ‘digital’ guy?!” Absolutely. I have been heavily involved in different aspects of digital marketing and development for fifteen years, and that’s not going away. However, my heart for business goes much deeper than any single application.

1. I have a heart for startups. Dreaming larger than life and  sharing that vision with charisma gets me jazzed. Startups are all about thinking big and building a strategic plans to get there.

2. Amazing people do amazing things. Working with the right team in a startup situation is invigorating. Obviously, pedigree and experience are important, but finding a team that gels is so important to drive insane growth.

3. I don’t know much about financial services. This is a good thing. Being an outsider permits you to ask really dumb questions like, “why in the world do we do it that way.” These questions pave the way for disruption.

4. Marriage of skills. What do you get when you mix a geek, philosopher, lawyer and entrepreneur together? I don’t know exactly, but being at the intersection of communication, business, leadership and regulation seems like an excellent marriage of skills.

5. Change leadership in practice. It is time to disrupt a little. I am so excited about being part of a team that will challenge the traditional approach and make waves in the world.

What does this mean?

So, yep, there’s some change in the world of Jeremy Floyd. I leapt to a new rock, but my passion is the same. Feel free to shoot me a note, if you have any questions!
