I am so proud to tell everyone that I have been nominated for the National Leadership Award by Congressman, Tom Cole. Unfortunately, Google happens.
Skeptical, while listening to the voicemail that sounded like some guy hopped up on starbucks selling junk bonds, I reserved judgment and went to the source. Evidently, I am not alone on the platform. NRCC found many before me to be worthy, but the skinny is:
…they ask permission to use your name in a full-page ad they’re taking out to “support further tax cuts and to defeat the Democrats in the upcoming elections” and they also ask that you donate a few hundred dollars to help out with the “media blitz”…
It’s a mad mad mad mad mad mad world, and I am still not a national leadership award recipient. Damnit, I’m never going to get that award…

You want it son? Okay it’s yours!
Dad
I recognize you.
I too was nominated, and with a huge grin I’ll google on down to funkie town. Tom Cole can take my nomination and share it with someone else too. Shame, Shame, but not going to buy the fame.
Thank you for your site. I just got that call today nominating ME TOO! Well, skeptical me google seached and found I was not alone. DARN! I figured they wanted my money. Oh well, so much for awards.
Thanks so much for clarifying this. I also got the call and knew it had to be a scam–I couldn’t think of a single thing that would have earned me a National Leadership Award…especially from the Republican party. I’m very thankful for the internet!
Just got back from China and had the same message on my Voicemail. America’s leadership is scamming us on every level, and China and Russia have actually won the cold war. Great! Wake up sleaze bag lawyers! We need some economists and business people in the Senate and Congress! Best Regards,
I had the award message left on my machine telling me that my son, a college student, won the award. My first thought after googling Tom Cole’s website was, why is this congressman from Oklahoma awarding my son who lives in Pennsylvania? We love you Google…you probably saved many people the time wasted on scamming phone call!
I received a call from a guy from the Business Advisory Council telling me that Congressman Tom Cole has invited me to have dinner with George Bush. NO mention on the message regarding an award etc… I am assuming my return call would award me with something like what all of you are discussing
All this negativity. I too was contacted to receive this very prestigious award. I’m no cynic. I have no reason to believe that the Republican party and this administration would be less than candid with me on the status of this well deserved honor. They’ve given me no reason to be suspicious of their motives. Shame shame shame on you skeptics.
Great, good job Mark. Congratulations on your National Leadership Award. What, prey tell, did you do to deserve this very prestigious award? How did they find out about you? You deserve the award! Really.
Man,do I LOVE the internet. This sounds so much like a business partner of mine who was notified he was being placed in the “Whos who in business”. I knew it HAD to be a scam, because the guy knew NOTHING about business.
Hearing the voicemail today, I figured it wouldn’t take to long to find someone else who received this “highest honor”.
Thanks for helping uncover the scam.
I used to make these calls and became tired of being a public nuisance . Any Questions?
Thanks for the post! My husband got the call today too - but from a live person, Theresa Speaker. I googled Tom Cole & found it odd that he was from OK & we are from NC, but then I found your site & it confirmed my suspicions. Gotta love google!
